Oral Surgery
We don’t know of anyone who looks forward to oral surgery. At Dr. Katie To, Center for Integrative Wellness and Cosmetic Dentistry, your total comfort is our priority, so we encourage you to let us know if you have questions or concerns.
Long-Term Relationships Build Trust
Having a tooth extracted is a big decision and one that you sometimes need to make while you have pain. We ensure that our patients feel as comfortable as possible for every procedure – including extractions. Our long-time patients will tell you that Dr. Katie and our caring team can put even the most dental phobic patients at ease.
By consistently providing compassionate care – the kind we want for our own families – and you can count on us to look after both your health and wellbeing during every procedure. If you have other alternatives, Dr. Katie will discuss them with you because informed patients make the best decisions!
Gentle Tooth Extraction
We do everything possible to keep your teeth healthy. On occasion, however, Dr. Katie may recommend an extraction to protect your health, remaining teeth, and bone. Some instances where it might be best to remove a tooth include:
- A tooth that is broken at or below the gumline
- Symptomatic wisdom teeth
- Instances where root canals were not successful
- Preparing for orthodontic procedures
- A chronically painful or troublesome tooth
Fortunately, tooth loss no longer means you need to walk around with a gap in your smile. Dental implants, bridges, or dentures can complete your smile, and Dr. Katie will happily discuss how each of these options might impact your life.
Comfortable Sedation Options
Dr. Katie has years of experience in performing gentle, comfortable tooth extractions. With a procedure like a tooth extraction, we always make sure you’re completely numb before we begin treatment. We know, however, that extraction is stressful for most people, so we offer conscious sedation options that make it easier for you to relax during treatment.
Sedation Dentistry
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is mild and gently relaxes you, so you feel a little drowsy and dreamy. There are no lingering after-effects, and with nitrous oxide, you’ll be able to return to your normal
activities immediately after your appointment.
Oral conscious sedation is another type of sedation that has a calming effect. You won’t “go to sleep,” but you will feel detached from the activity around you. Since you’re conscious, you’ll be able to communicate with Dr. Katie and our team so we can ensure that you remain comfortable throughout the procedure.
Please Call to Arrange a Consultation
If you suspect you need a dental extraction, or just need a diagnosis for a painful tooth and some solutions, you can count on our Katy, TX dental office team to help you make a choice that works for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
We offer many options for patients who need a little help to relax during their dental care. We offer nitrous oxide (commonly referred to as laughing gas) to help take the edge off and allow you to fully enjoy your visit. For patients who need a little more help, we also have an anesthesiologist who comes in and sedates our patients using IV sedation. Depending on your level of anxiety and what kind of care you are receiving, we can help find the best solution for you!
We can help you find the level of sedation for your treatment that works for you so that you will be comfortable during your dental visit. Please make sure to tell our team about any anxiety you may be having.
This is a very common question! You may feel like you’re alone with your anxiety, but millions of people experience some stress when faced with dental visits.
In many cases, patients don’t like seeing the dentist because they feel like they’re not in control of the situation. One of our goals at Dr. Katie To Center for Wellness Dentistry, is to get to know our patients and take the time to build trusting relationships. When you feel at ease with us, your dental care won’t seem so intimidating.
We’ll listen to your concerns and spend some time to learn more about the source of your fear. You’d be amazed at how opening up about your feelings can help to reduce your anxiety!
Fear of pain and discomfort is another cause of dental anxiety. At our office, all our services are designed to maximize your comfort and reduce your stress. But if you still need help relaxing during your treatment, we offer safe nitrous oxide sedation that will make you feel slightly drowsy and detached from what’s going on around you.
Dr. Katie and Dr. Luu can also prescribe an anti-anxiety medication for you to take before your appointment to help you feel calm when you arrive at our office. Please remember that, if we’re using oral sedation, you’ll need a designated driver to get you to and from your appointment.
Don’t let anxiety about your dental care ruin your good oral health. Call us today to learn more about the ways we can help!
