One of the more debated topics in biological dentistry is the jawbone "cavitation" — a pocket of poorly healed or compromised bone, usually at the site of a past extraction, especially wisdom teeth. When a socket doesn't fully fill in with bone after a tooth is removed, an area of incomplete healing can remain, and the concern is that it may harbor chronic low-grade inflammation.
A key reason they're called "hidden" is that standard 2D X-rays often miss these subtle areas, which is why 3D cone-beam CT imaging is typically used to detect them.
If you have a history of extractions and unexplained chronic symptoms, a 3D jawbone evaluation can be a reasonable part of a broader workup.
As a biological dental office, it is one of the things we screen for!
