Why We Use Ozone-Infused Water During Your Cleanings

At Center for Wellness Dentistry, we use ozonated water—and it's one of those small differences that says a lot about how we think about your health.

What's the big deal about ozonated water?

Here's something most people never consider: a dental cleaning stirs up bacteria. When we clean below the gumline and break up biofilm, we're disrupting bacterial colonies that have settled into your mouth. That's a good thing—but it also means bacteria can momentarily enter your bloodstream through inflamed gum tissue. For a healthy mouth, that's usually no problem. But it's exactly why we'd rather not leave it to chance.

Enter ozonated water.

Ozone is oxygen with an extra kick—three oxygen atoms instead of two. When we infuse water with it, that water becomes a powerful, natural antimicrobial. As we rinse during your cleaning, ozonated water goes after bacteria, viruses, and fungi on contact, without harsh chemicals.

Two things this does for you:

It reduces the bacteria that could slip into your bloodstream during cleaning, lowering that transient bacterial load right when it matters most.

And it lowers the overall bacterial count in your mouth, giving you a cleaner, fresher starting point and supporting a healthier oral microbiome going forward.

Why this fits our philosophy.

We're a biological dental practice, which means we're always asking, how does what we do in the mouth affect the rest of the body? Your mouth isn't separate from your whole-body health—it's a gateway to it. Using ozonated water is a simple, chemical-free way to keep that gateway clean and protect more than just your teeth.

It's the kind of detail you might not notice. But your body will.
