What to Expect at a Cosmetic Dental Consultation
A cosmetic consultation is the first step in planning a smile transformation. The goal of this visit is to understand the patient’s concerns, esthetic goals, and evaluate the current condition of the teeth.
During the appointment, the doctor reviews the patient’s dental and medical history and a panoramic radiograph is taken to evaluate the teeth, existing restorations, bone levels, and any possible underlying issues. Record photographs, video, and a digital scan of the teeth are also captured to create a detailed baseline for treatment planning.
Together, they review the photographs taken during the visit to identify areas the patient would like to improve in terms of esthetics and function. Patients are also encouraged to bring reference photos of smiles they like.
This consultation is also the time to discuss preferences or limitations, such as avoiding orthodontics or minimizing tooth reduction. If a patient has a specific timeline—such as an upcoming event—the doctor can determine whether the desired treatment can realistically be completed within that timeframe.
