Why We Love Cosmetic Bonding

Cosmetic bonding is one of our favorite ways to enhance a smile because it is both conservative and highly effective. Unlike many cosmetic procedures, bonding is non-invasive and reversible. It typically does not require numbing, drilling, or cutting down on healthy tooth structure. After patients approve of the smile design, the following bonding appointment is completed in a single visit. Composite material is artistically placed directly onto the teeth and polished to create natural-looking results.

Another advantage is flexibility. If a bonded area chips or breaks, it can usually be repaired in a single visit without involving a lab. By cutting out lab costs, bonding is typically more affordable than porcelain. Porcelain may last longer, however it often requires reducing natural tooth structure. Bonding allows a more conservative approach to a harmonious, beautiful smile.

A common question we get is how long cosmetic bonding lasts. The answer depends on how well the patients are protecting them against damaging environmental factors, such as biting into hard things, having an acidic diet, grinding and clenching forces, and poor oral hygiene. While the esthetic improvement is a huge part of cosmetic bonding, our goal is never just about appearance. We design a smile with function and longevity in mind, so the bite remains balanced and the restoration performs well over time.
