You might see a physician for your heart, another for your hormones, and a dentist for your teeth. Each one gets a piece of the picture. But your health isn't a set of separate compartments — it's one connected system. That's why, at our practice, we sometimes ask about your blood work, and why we see ourselves as one part of your whole health team.
Why blood work comes up at a dental office. As biological dentists, we've never believed the mouth is separate from the rest of you. What shows up in your gums and teeth often echoes what's happening throughout your body — inflammation, nutrient status, metabolic health. Blood work offers another window into that same picture. Markers like inflammatory levels, vitamin D, or blood sugar can help us understand why we might be seeing what we see in your mouth, and how best to support you. It's not about us diagnosing or managing medical conditions — that's your physician's role. It's about seeing you more completely.
Better together. When we understand the fuller context of your health, we can care for you more thoughtfully — and coordinate with the other providers who know you. If your blood work points to something worth watching, we can make sure the right conversations happen with the right people. If your physician is already managing something, knowing that helps us tailor your dental care around it. Everyone works better when the picture is shared instead of scattered.
What this looks like for you. It might be a question about a recent lab result, a suggestion to check in with your doctor about something we've noticed, or a note that helps connect the dots across your care. The goal is simple: to make sure your mouth isn't being treated in isolation from the body it belongs to.
You're a whole person, not a collection of parts. We'd rather be one coordinated member of the team looking after all of you — because that's what real whole-body care looks like.
